Green Card Lottery online entry registration period for the DV-2011 is between noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4), Friday, October 2, 2009, and noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT-5), Monday, November 30, 2009.  Entrants apply on Form DS-5501, Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form, available only during the DV open registration period. LPR MAY APPLY FOR CANCELLATION OF REMOVAL AS BATTERED SPOUSE

The Board of Immigration Appeals held that (1) a lawful permanent resident (LPR) who qualifies as a battered spouse may be eligible to apply for cancellation of removal,  but (2) given the nature and purpose of the relief of cancellation of removal–to enable aliens to leave their abusive spouses–such factors as an alien’s divorce from an abusive spouse, his or her previous reliance on that abusive relationship to self-petition for adjustment of status, and his or her remarriage (so that he or she is no longer in an abusive relationship) are relevant in determining whether an application for cancellation of removal should be granted.

IMMIGRATION & GAY MARRIAGES

Whether or not gay marriage is legal in your state, the USCIS says there’s no such thing. Green Card cannot be sponsored by a domestic partner. Nor can a partner accompany a temporary visa holder such as an H-1B worker.
